BOH Members Forum

This forum is meant to be a place where HMCC Region 2 unaffiliated Local Boards of Health can post questions, share resources, and discuss their ongoing efforts related to Covid-19. A shared drive with useful resources is also available on dropbox:

Please start each comment with your name and community. We'll do our best to monitor this page, filter questions up to DPH and MEMA as appropriate, and provide support but we expect this to be a great peer-to-peer resource as well. If you know the answer to someone's question, please help when you can.

  2. Updated news on thermometers: 2,000 will be in MA by this Wednesday. Please make the request via your PPE requests through DPH.

As a follow up to a question from last week: AA meetings (and other recovery efforts) should only be held with 10 or fewer individuals, all practicing social distancing. For groups larger than 10 individuals meetings must be held remotely (via Zoom or other).

  3. Ken Lacey from Sturbridge wasnt able to speak on the video conference but wanted to add a few points:
    - As for the conflict between public safety wanting more than an address for confirmed cases, Sturbridge has said the argument from 3rd party council (police union council) does not trump the guidance from DPH. Ken reported that this has pretty much put the issue to rest in Sturbridge.
    - It's very important to declare a local state of emergency and track expenses in order to be able to get reimbursement from MEMA down the line.
    - Ken is working to coordinate for first responder isoation at a local hotel and plans to submit a regional application.
    - Ken also reported he can bring on 3 additional nurses and may have capacity to help neighboring communities.

  4. Jamie Terry, Brimfield, asked a few MAVEN related questions of Scott Tropy, DPH. Answers below:
    1) can you provide more information about the program that mirrors MAVEN (might be called redcap?) It described earlier this week on the conf calls as the system that nurses who are brought on to help our nurse would use to enter information since they don’t have access to MAVEN and it would be somehow uploaded to MAVEN. How and when is it uploaded? Are there instructions (webinar? Video? Written?) on use? How quickly can we obtain access?
Answer: We hope to have information regarding this contact tracing program this week (early it what I am hoping or on the Tuesday webinar at 11) Thanks are moving fast on our end and we hope to finalize directions and disseminate information this week as we finalize plans with this group.

    2) is there a way to add access to additional communities into MAVEN for an individual user (or group of users)? I.e. my access is for Brimfield, but if I am granted access (with permission of course) to assist some of Cheryl’s other Towns with input of data into MAVEN after investigation occurs it will take that burden off of Cheryl.
Answer: It is up to each town/group of towns authorized staff to determine who needs on MAVEN – we are focusing on folks that are going to do active case investigation and follow-up and enter the data into MAVEN. I would assume you would need a coordinated effort around this that would have Cheryl being a point person if that is the direction you wanted to go in given the workload you currently all have. Happy to discuss this with you further.

    3) to the above questions end is there a secure means to get information remotely from location to location (I.e. nurse to health Director when we aren’t together) so that written data can be added into MAVEN in an expedited fashion?
Answer: MAVEN has reports built into the system for MAVEN users to run when needed. You can work with Cheryl to have her run a report if that is the direction you want to go in. I know other communities have been pulling the first responder report and a count report by jurisdiction (confirmed and contact cases) and sending this to appropriate staff in the town. We are working on adding additional reports that would grant users the options to pull a list of confirmed cases and a report for contacts.
